Rara and Khaptad National Park Trek

Embark on an extraordinary journey from Khaptad National Park, a hidden treasure in
Far West Nepal, to Rara Lake, the largest lake in Nepal.
Nestled in the far western reaches of Nepal, Khaptad National Park spans 225 sq. km,
offering a unique and enriching experience unlike any other protected area in the
country. Due to its remote location, Khaptad remains largely untouched by tourists,
making it a pristine sanctuary of natural beauty and spiritual significance. Notably, the
park holds religious significance as the revered Khaptad Baba spent five decades here
in meditation and worship, ultimately attaining spiritual enlightenment. Alongside its
religious importance, the park boasts breathtaking vistas of the Api and Saipal
Himalayan ranges.
The park’s features include 22 expansive grasslands, the tranquil Khaptad Lake, and a
diverse array of flora and fauna. With 567 species of flora, including montane sal, pine,
alder, firs, oak, birch, and rhododendron, as well as 135 species of flowers in the
Khaptad Grasslands and 224 species of medicinal herbs, Khaptad teems with natural
wonders. The park is also home to 287 bird species, such as the impeyan pheasant,
partridge, flycatcher, bulbuls, cuckoos, and eagles, as well as 23 mammal species,
including barking deer, wild boar, goral, leopard, wild dog, and jackal.
Rara Lake, nestled amidst snow-capped mountains and dense pine forests, exudes
serenity and tranquility. When the winds are calm, the reflective waters offer a
mesmerizing spectacle, mirroring the surrounding mountains and clouds.
Venture into the wilderness, traversing dense forests, alpine landscapes, and rural
Nepalese countryside to remote mountain villages rarely visited by tourists. This trek is
ideal for adventurers seeking an authentic wilderness experience amidst the untamed
beauty of Nepal’s natural landscapes.
