Sarangkot Hiking

Sarangkot Hill is renowned for its stunning panoramic vistas of the Annapurna Himalayan
range, including the majestic Mt. Dhaulagiri, as well as captivating sunrise and sunset
views. Situated at an elevation of 1,600 meters on the northern shore of Phewa Lake,
Sarangkot offers a captivating journey through the Schima-Catonopsis forest, providing
ample opportunities for birdwatching along the way. A pleasant two-hour trek from Phewa
Lake leads to this hilltop destination, where you’ll find comfortable hotels and an
observation tower offering sweeping views of the Pokhara Valley and the expansive
Annapurna range. From this vantage point, you can also admire the beauty of Phewa Lake
and its surrounding tributaries. It’s highly recommended to spend a night at Sarangkot to
witness the captivating sunrise and sunset views.
A leisurely one-hour walk from Sarangkot brings you to Kaskikot, a historically significant
site and the ancestral home of the Shah kings of Nepal. The term ‘kot’ refers to a fortified
palace from where the king ruled the region. Accessible via a stone staircase leading to an
altitude of 1,758 meters, Kaskikot hosts vibrant celebrations during the “Chaite Dashain”
festival in April and “Bada Dashain” in October. From Kaskikot, you can venture further to
Naudanda, meaning ‘nine hills,’ where the Pokhara-Baglung Highway provides access to
breathtaking views of the entire Annapurna range to the north and Phewa Lake to the
south.
Sarangkot’s breathtaking panoramas encompass not only the natural splendor of Pokhara
but also offer a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape. Renowned for its
paragliding opportunities, Sarangkot provides a bird’s eye view of the Seti River, Phewa
Lake, and the valley itself. Easily accessible via a ten-minute uphill drive from Aarchalbot,
this route also serves as a short-day trek within the Pokhara Valley. Tourists often opt for
horseback rides to reach the hill station, where locals provide powerful binoculars for
enhanced viewing of the valley and mountains. Enjoy the captivating vistas of the northern
part of Pokhara city from Sarangkot, an experience that truly captures the essence of the
region’s natural beauty.
